Milk Grotto entrance

Milk Grotto

Christian tradition says the milk grotto is the place where the Holy Family found refuge during the "slaughter of the innocents", before they could flee to Egypt. The name is derived from the story that a "drop of milk" of the Virgin Mary fell on the floor of the cave and changed its color to white.

Church of the Nativity
Dragon slayers.
A wedding had just started when we got to the church.
I won't bite (maybe).
Manger square.
This is the city center of Bethlehem.

We had some very good falafel from a street vendor, but no coffee!.
Every place we went was uphill both ways!
Our tax dollars at work.
Shepherds Field closed five minutes before we got there.
A GREAT family style dinner at Grotto.
The salad was followed by lamb, beef, chicken and vegtables.
On our way back from Bethlehem in the West Bank, the BIG car didn't quite make it around the spike bar at the check point.  This broke off after it imbedded itself in the tire.  Fortunatly it missed vital parts (air containing parts) so it just had to be removed.  The spike bar made a lot of noise until this broke off!!
